Antisocial Behaviour in Eden - Update

To receive a verbal update from Cumbria Constabulary in respect of antisocial behaviour and drug related issues within Eden.

Minutes:

PC Green and PC Newman from the Cumbria Police Proactive Team gave a verbal update to Members in respect of antisocial behaviour and drug and alcohol related issues within Eden.  They stated that there has been a reduction in the number of antisocial incidents from August 2019 to October 2019.  There has been a rise from seven to nine drug related incidents during the same period.  It was noted that this rise may be because the Unit is undertaking targeted work which may have identified previously unreported incidents.

The antisocial use of vehicles tends to be concentrated around Castle Park, Sainsburys and McDonalds in Penrith.  Drug and alcohol use amongst young drivers has been targeted.  ‘Restorative Justice’ work has been undertaken and Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 is also being used to reduce reoffending.

It was noted that while CCTV use at Sainsburys is limited staff have body cams which can be used to record evidence.

PC Green confirmed that while the Proactive Team may assist teams in neighbouring areas three officers provide dedicated support within Eden.

PC Green and PC Newman left the Council Chamber at 7.24p.m.
